Algisite M is a calcium alginate dressing that forms a soft gel when it comes into contact with wound exudate.

Benefits

• On moderate to heavily exuding wounds, Algisite M forms a gel which does not adhere to delicate healing tissue so it can be easily lifted out of the wound or washed out with saline
• Algisite M is very conformable allowing it to be molded, folded or cut to fit a wide variety of wound sizes and shapes and as the fibers gel it creates an even greater contact with the wound
• Due to the bonding technique used in Algisite M it greatly reduces shedding of the fibers
• The production of gel helps create a moist wound environment and helps to prevent eschar formation and it also allows wound contaction to occur which helps reduce scarring and allows gaseous exchange
• Algsite M can absorb up to 13 times its own weight in exudate which allows the dressing to remain in the wound for up to 7 days

Contraindications

Ensure the packing in cavities has been removed. The dressing may adhere is used on lightly exuding wounds, if it is not easily removed, moisten with saline and then remove. Do not use on patients with know allergies to alginates.
